As an independent publisher it can be hard to make the sums add up. Not many can afford their own sales teams, and even if your site has the profile to attract good advertisers on its own, you need the time chasing down those contacts would take to concentrate on producing amazing content. If you can find time after that, there's the all important technical jobs to keep your title at the top of the pile.
